The two people who look after baptisms at St John's are:

Diane Jackson

Rev’d Fergus Pearson

   Baptism

We consider baptism to be very important.  This is why we want to make sure everyone who brings a child for baptism at St John’s has the time and opportunity to really get a feel for who Jesus Christ is and what he offers in baptism.  In this way the time spent in church on the baptism day will be rich and rewarding.

We would like you to get to know us at St John’s, and ask you to come for 6 weeks before the baptism to our main service at 11.00am Diane will be on the lookout to welcome you.  Then when the baptism day comes we hope you will feel you are among friends rather than strangers.

You can take your little one into the supervised crèche at 11.00am or at any time you’d like to during the service.  If you have older children they are most welcome too, and you can find out about their special Sunday activities elsewhere on this website.

After you have been coming to church for a few weeks, Fergus (the Vicar), will come and see you at home.  Then we can firm up the baptism date and look together at the role parents and godparents play in baptism.  Baptisms usually happen on the third Sunday of each month (except August and December).

Don’t hesitate to speak to Fergus (the Vicar) in church on any Sunday, or telephone 01946-692822.

F.A.Q

1. Is ‘Baptism’ the same as 'Christening

Yes.  In the Church of England it is usually called ‘baptism’.

2. Can I have my baby baptised at St John’s if I live in another parish?

The answer is yes so long
as…..

Either – you are on St John’s electoral roll.

(Anyone can apply to go on the church electoral roll after they have attended St John’s regularly for 6 months).

Or  -  the vicar of the parish you live in writes a note to say he or she is happy for your child to be baptized at St John’s.
