Part 39 - My Rights

There are currently people protesting lockdown in the US. They claim that it is a breach of their rights and freedoms as an American citizen; and they are correct. But it is also correct that we should never use our freedom for our own selfish purposes (Galatians 5:13). As a medical provider, I fully understand the devastating effects of this disease on the lives of so many families that have lost loved ones to this cruel virus. As a Christian, I also understand, that we are often asked to think about how our personal freedom may affect other people, and to put aside that freedom for a greater purpose, that of love for others. We are to look at the interest of others above our own personal interest. We have the greatest example of this in Jesus, who although he was God, became man and submitted himself to men and died on the cross for our sins (Philippians 2:4-7). So today, let us use our freedom in Christ to serve each other by staying at home and maintaining social distancing when out in public.
