Part 29 - National call to prayer

During World War Two the King gave several national calls to prayer, that are quite inspiring to consider now. I must admit, I was not aware of this part of our history as a Christian nation, but I'm pleased to know of it now.

Do watch this video which shows the streams of people going into Westminster Abbey in 1940. As we find ourselves in a different kind of war, don't we long for the kind of response we saw in that time?

I have just signed a petition for the Prime Minister to call for a day of prayer as a Christian country. You can view that here and sign if you wish. Church leaders including the Archbishops have already announced a day of prayer for COVID (it was on Mothering Sunday), but it would still be a very good thing to have one initiated by political leaders.

In the Bible God clearly calls people to seek him. Psalm 2:10-11 'Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.' 1 Timothy 2:1-2 urges that 'petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.'

Our Queen has given an Easter Message here. We thank God for her Christian faith.

May the Lord Jesus grant our world his help, healing and peace, which only He can give.
