Part 27 - Proverbially Speaking

God gave us wisdom for difficult situations right through the bible, but it can get lost beneath the self help books or you tube videos. Here are some snippets from the Book of Proverbs for lockdown.

Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge (1:7)...so fear God and not COVID-19 or what the future holds. There is a good fear and a bad fear at this time. We ALL fear something. You choose!

Diligent hands will rule (12:24)....stay busy and remember God wants us to be diligent in our work. You will be blessed.

Start children off in the way they should go and when they are older they will not turn from it (22:6)...this is a great opportunity for spending quality time with our children and teaching them the things of God. They may always remember you investing in them with God's truth at this time. Time invested in the early years is precious for future faith.

Wine is a mocker (20:1)...so don't resort to the bottle to deal with your stress at this time. Wine sales are rocketing, but it brings down the person that goes there. Jesus wants to give us peace and the peace from a bottle is deceiving. If you can't sleep, pray and do wise things that any number of people can advise on, but don't open the bottle.

The one who gets wisdom loves life (19:8) …..Use this time to get the wisdom of God's Word into you. You are never going to remember that TV programme in 2 years time, but that time spent in the word is going to change you. You have the time now, like you may never again. Be someone who gets wisdom.

In the Lord's hand the king's heart is a stream of water (21:1)...so you might not be able to influence people or events in this time of lockdown in the ways you hoped to. Were you meant to move house? Travel somewhere? Have an important meeting? Don't fret- but pray for God to make things happen as even the heart of kings is in his hands. Sometimes God wants us to feel out of control so that we can see he is in control.

Enjoy proverbs in these days.
