Part 51 - Thankful?

How quick we are to complain, and how slow to be thankful. Yet of all people through history, surely we have most to be thankful for. Whilst at the current time things are undeniably hard, the spirit of thanklessness has no place amongst us.

‘Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’ 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Paul writes that to a church in the midst of severe suffering, yet still they are to be thankful

This is something I have found hard, it is easy to complain that zoom is a poor replacement for real life bible studies, that seeing people from 2m away sucks, that the online service could be done better… The list is almost endless.

Instead of being unthankful, let us resolve to be thankful for all the good things we have. Physical things, for sure. But also spiritual things as well. Read Ephesians 1:3-14, it is hard to go away from that without being thankful for the gifts of God’s grace. Being chosen by God, adopted as his children, redeemed by the blood of Christ, and in-dwelt by the spirit. What spiritual blessings!
