Part 40 - Yet not I, But Through Christ in Me

On Sunday we will be singing a new song, in preparation for that I thought I would offer a few thoughts to help as we sing on Sunday.

As Christians, we are not simply saved by Christ. But are united to him. As people united to Christ, seeking to live for Christ, there is the seeming paradox. In our efforts in the live for Christ and keep going in faith, is it I who work, or is it Christ?

‘To this end I stenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.’ Colossians 1:29

‘Yet not I, but through Christ in me’ is song which captures this dynamic. In contending for the faith, it is not simply that I do all the work, nor does it mean that Christ does it all. Rather we contend with his energy. It is Christ through us. That will be the pattern of our lives, that when the race is complete, still our lips shall repeat, yet not I, but through Christ in me.
