Part 54 - Christ the Solid Rock

‘Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.’ Matthew 7:24

As we were thinking about on Sunday morning, the only foundation and rock upon which we should build is Christ. Upon his word, putting it into practice.

The reality is that all other foundations upon which we might build are poor. You don’t need to be a civil engineer to know that you can’t build a house without firm foundations. We are quick to forget that any way of life, other than that which is putting Jesus’ words in to practice, is founded on sand and there will be a day when it fails.

Below is a song that I have had in my head since Sunday. The words of the chorus have been particularly helpful, when I am tempted to ‘build my house on the sand’ I can say to myself “No! On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.

It would be foolish to build on the sand, yet why are we so tempted to just do that? Instead, let’s build on the rock of Christ.
