THERE'S A PLACE FOR YOU

Serving is one of the ways we worship God, care for one another and help our church community flourish.

At St John’s, we call our volunteers serving partners because each person plays a valued part in our shared ministry. Whatever your gifts, experience or availability, there may be a place where you can make a difference—and perhaps discover something new along the way.

Why become a serving partner?

Serving is about much more than completing a task. It can be an opportunity to:

• use the gifts God has given you;
• get to know other people;
• grow in confidence and experience;
• contribute to the life of our church; and
• help others encounter God’s welcome and love.

Every role matters, including the many things that happen quietly behind the scenes.

Find something that fits

There are many ways to serve at St John’s. Some roles happen during Sunday services, while others take place during the week or at special adhoc events.

Opportunities include:
Welcoming
Hospitality and refreshments
Worship 
Bell ringing
Technical support - operating the sound and visuals 
Children’s and youth activities
Pastoral care
Prayer and Bible Reading
Hosting
Outreach
Practical help and maintenance
Occasional events like Football School and Christmas Unwrapped

You don’t need to have special experience for most roles. Guidance, training and support will be provided where needed.

What kind of commitment is involved?

Serving should fit sensibly alongside the rest of your life. Some serving partners help regularly, while others serve occasionally or for a particular event or season.

We will always explain what a role involves before you decide. You can ask questions, meet the team or arrange to come and see what happens. Expressing an interest does not commit you to joining.

Where a role requires safer-recruitment checks or particular training, we will guide you through the process.

Not sure where you might fit?

That’s completely fine. You don’t need to choose a role before speaking to us.

Tell us a little about the things you enjoy, the gifts you would like to use and the time you may have available. We can help you explore the possibilities and find something that feels right.
