Christmas at St John's

It's that wonderful time of year when we start planning all our events to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Here you'll find everything you need to know about Christmas Unwrapped - our community Christmas fun day, our nativity service, our popular carols by candlelight services and our services on Christmas Day.

All of them take place at St John's Church Hensingham, Egremont Road, Hensingham, CA28 8QW and all are completely free of charge.
EVERYONE WELCOME

CHRISTMAS UNWRAPPED:
Our much loved community Christmas event is taking place on the 5th December 2026 from 2-5pm.
Join us for a fun day filled with activities and Christmas cheer.  Activities will be finalised nearer the time but you can be sure of lots of crafts and plenty of tea and cake!  We usually have a bouncy castle, popcorn and candy floss in the main hall, our fantastic carol singers in the entranceway, pool and bowling in the main church and of course the highlight of the day, the NISCU puppets and a celebration of Christmas with the vicar.

NATIVITY:
On the 13th December 2026, our children's groups will be performing a nativity during the 11am service.  Expect cuteness overload and a little bit of chaos as they retell the story of the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT:
We are once again having an extra service of 'carols by candlelight' that will be a relaxed and accessible service.
Both services will be held on the 20th December 2026.
The first service at 4pm will be a relaxed service and only the central pews will have lit candles.  Low lighting will remain on throughout the service and the service will be slightly shorter than the usual carol service.
Our full carols by candlelight service will start at 6.30pm.  Please note: at this service all the lights are switched off and every pew has lit candles.
Both services includes carols and bible readings, a Christmas message and some special musical performances.  Hot drinks and mince pies will be served in the church hall after each service.

CHRISTMAS DAY:
Join us on Christmas Day as we celebrate the birth of our saviour.
8am Holy Communion
10:30am All Age Service
